Manufactured between late 1988 and 1994 the Porsche 911 (Auftragsnummer 964) had a typical production life, but the economic recession of the early '90s had an almost devastating effect on Porsche as a company. The 964 was very expensive to manufacture due to a significant amount of hand finishing and, because of this, the car is extremely well made. With a fully galvanised body, significant rust is rarely a problem - even on cars approaching 20 years old. The 3.6 litre flat 6 "Boxer" engine is oil and air cooled and it's dry-sumped design is heavily based on that of the famous Porsche GT1 racing car.
